The Things I’ve Heard: A Short Compilation of Comments I’ve Received on Runs

Here are some of the more interesting comments that I have received on various runs over the years:

1)”Isn’t it a bit cold for that?”- On my wearing of shorts on a day that was probably well below freezing

2)”Bark! Bark!”- Yes, someone barked at me through a car window. Literally, barked, like a dog. Not only that, but he turned his car around in order to pass me again and bark one more time. There are some very strange people out there.

3)”Wow, that‘s one look of determination.” A woman to her husband (or vice versa, I don’t remember), on my apparently intense look of determination as I neared the final mile of a long run.

4)”Look, a runner!”- A mother to her young child as I ran by. She must have been pretty desperate for a distraction.

5) As I stop at a deli to buy water:

Cashier: “So how many miles have you run?”

Me: “I don’t know, about 14.”

Cashier: “Holy @!$#!”

I have also received numerous “compliments” on my shorts, and although I don’t think I’ve gotten this one yet, my brother (also a runner) got “RUN, FORREST, RUN!” yelled at him.

I plan to post another batch of these, as I remember and/or experience more, so keep an eye out for it if you liked these.
